FENSA

The Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme was implemented by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), with government backing from April 1st 2002. It was designed to enable companies that install windows for doors in properties, to certify that they comply with all necessary government initiated Build Regulations. Since its inception, over 9,000 businesses have opted to register with FENSA.

In order to adhere to Building Regulations in England and Wales, it is the homeowner’s responsibility when having double glazed windows installed or replaced in their property, to either get a certificate of compliance from their local Council or use a FENSA registered company who will supply a FENSA certificate on completion of the work. Using a FENSA registered company to install their double glazing saves homeowners money and inconvenience as well as providing peace of mind that their installer is regulated and compliant with national Regulations and Standards.

To keep in line with government requirements regarding reduced energy loss, all FENSA registered glazing installers must conform to the current thermal performance standards. They must also provide detailed written quotations, a guarantee of their work and offer indemnity insurance with each installation.

FENSA is a valuable and unique system which not only keeps records of all its members and registered double glazing installation, but which is both industry and consumer driven and fully endorsed by the government.

Alternative self certifying schemes such as CERTASS enable installers and fitters of double glazing to self certify their work through a Competent Persons Scheme.
